Lonely Avenue hits the streets Sept. 28th

Ben Folds’ newest release, Lonely Avenue, will be available everywhere starting September 28th. His latest effort is a collaboration between himself and English novelist of High Fidelity fame, Nick Hornby.

The album has 11 tracks, with music by Folds and lyrics by Hornby. They are:

Folds & Hornby: The Perfect Pair

Ben Folds has teamed up with English novelist Nick Hornby to produce the collaboration “Lonely Avenue,” set to be released on September 28, 2010.

The album is comprised of Ben’s vocals and music accompanied by Hornby’s lyrics. The disc is truly spectacular, complimented by the string arrangements of Paul Buckmaster. It was recorded on a 2-inch tape and is made specifically to be listened to on vinyl. Don’t be discouraged if you are not a record player music enthusiast– the album will also be available on CD, digitally and in a deluxe edition that features four short stories by Hornby.

The idea struck the two friends over dinner one night in 2009. Since then Hornby sent his lyrics to Folds, who then transformed them into musical short stories.

Hornby is best known for his novels High Fidelity, About A Boy and Fever Pitch, all later made into hit movies with amazing soundtracks. His latest novel, Juliet, Naked (September 2009), is about a reclusive 80’s rock star forced out of hiding to confront long-time fans. Music plays an important part in many of his works, as well as in his real life, so this newest collaboration is a natural next step.

I have never read any of Hornby’s work, but now I’m intrigued. I find myself eager at the thought of wanting to have my very own copy of Lonely Avenue!

Ben Folds judges ‘The Sing Off’

From Dec. 14-21, 2009, Ben Folds was featured as a judge on NBC’s a cappella competition called “The Sing Off.”

Folds, along with fellow judges Nicole Scherzinger (formerly a Pussycat Doll) and Shawn Stockman (of Boyz II Men) gave comments and criticism, and ultimately helped chose a winner from the two finalist groups ‘The Beelzebubs’ from Tufts University (near Boston, Mass.) and Nota, a group from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Nota was the ultimate winner of the $100,000 prize.
